9 Jewellery Trends for Winter 2017/18

23/11/2017

Despite the dreary weather, winter calls for parties galore. From office Christmas parties to get-togethers with the family, your calendar will soon be full for the season. You know what that means? It's time to plan your outfits – you need to be ready for all of the glitz and glamour that the Christmas party season brings.

You may have some classy dresses or hot jumpsuits or demure trouser combos in mind already. But you mustn't forget that accessories can make or break an outfit. Jewellery, in particular, can make your look really striking. So here at Hodgkinsons we have put together a list of the top jewellery trends that you can pair with your party outfits during the autumn/winter season.

Multi-Layered Rings

You may have seen layered or stacked bracelets before, but the hot new trend is stacking rings on your digits. A variety of shapes, colours and sizes look best and give off a bohemian chic vibe. Mixing styles helps you pull off a unique look. This trend isn't about subtlety or minimalism; your mantra should be 'more is more' in this case. Stacked bracelets and necklaces are still very much in vogue of course, but one of this season's must-have trends are multi-layered rings.

Statement Hoop Earrings

In many ways, hoop earrings are a classic accessory, and oversized, statement hoops are on trend this season. They have been seen in a variety of styles in the Fall/Winter 2017/18 fashion shows for Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga and Michael Kors. The stunning hoops were re-designed, stretched out or even doubled up to make a statement. Oversized hoops give classy outfits a more retro or laid-back vibe. Picture your hair in an up-do and bare shoulders – your statement hoops will catch the eye of every passer-by.

Mix & Match Earrings

If you're the type of person who likes to stand out from the pack, then this trend is certainly for you. Fashion houses such as Maison Margiela and Ellery Fall have been displaying innovative, contrasting earrings on the runway. The materials that make up each earring might be different, the entire design or each earring might be different, or your earrings might be asymmetrical. This last one is particularly fitting as another jewellery trend for this season is asymmetry, which takes inspiration from modern design and architecture. Mixing and matching earrings or serving up some asymmetry provides a twist on classic jewellery pieces.

Pearls

Pearls have always been popular. But what the fashionistas are talking about this season is 'neo pearls'. They're less Marge Simpson and more of a statement piece. This means oversized pearls or long, intertwining strands of pearls. Basically, you're looking at any kind of original and bold redesign of the classic pearl necklace. This style certainly has a lot more edge than what you might be used to. For the optimal look, make your neo pearls the key statement piece of jewellery, meaning you should tone down your other accessories to allow the pearls to stand out.

Party Girl Earrings

The party girl look is uber trendy this season and epitomised by large, sparkly chandelier earrings. This look gives off a Studio 54 vibe, and so it's perfect for this season's parties. Imagine the disco lights reflecting off your glittering earrings. Stunning chandelier earrings have been seen on the runway for the likes of Miu Miu and Isabel Marant, often paired with king size crystal rings. Looks like bling is in again! Chandelier earrings bring the glitz and glamour, that's for sure.

Monograms

Personalised jewellery such is the kind of thing you could imagine your gran getting you as a present – a present which you're a little unsure of might we add. Well, it turns out that gran is pretty stylish as monograms are definitely in. Monogram necklaces have been seen on celebs and on the runway, so you know that they're a must-have accessory for anyone who likes to stay on trend. It is interesting if you think about it, as this trend is a way to personalise your look. You could even make it super personal by wearing the initials of a loved one, for example.

Serious Sparkle

Well, we did say that bling is in this autumn/winter. What we're talking about here are diamonds and clear gemstones. Even if your jewellery is oversized, this look is mostly delicate and feminine. So, you're not necessarily going for big, flashy red-carpet-style jewellery even if you are wearing some serious sparkle. The elegant pieces group a bunch of tiny stones together, sometimes in intricate designs. This trend is clearly about sophistication and glamour, and overall it has a vintage feel about it. Pop into our Clarkston Showroom to have a look at some of our 'seriously sparkly' pieces of jewellery.

Coloured Stones

It's not just diamonds and clear gemstones that are hot this season, resplendent coloured stones are in too. Emeralds, rubies, sapphires and all manner of precious stones can accent your look. The options are diverse, so there are a range of colours and textures to choose from. To pull off this look you don't need to match the colours of your outfit, just choose colours that complement it. Plus, it looks really good if you mix and match your coloured stones. Think a number of stacked rings with a couple of different gemstones thrown into the mix. Visit our jewellery page to get a feel for some of our coloured stones.

Extraordinary Necklaces

As you've probably realised by now, many of this season's jewellery trends involve making a statement, but none more so than this particular trend. When we say extraordinary, we mean extraordinary because what we're talking about in this case are necklaces with magnetic UFOs or wearable sculptures for example, as seen on the runways of Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen. It's pretty out there, so this look is certainly one for the bold. If you want to add some drama to your outfit this season, then this is the look to go for.

Whichever jewellery trends take your fancy this winter, be bold and beautiful. Make a statement with your futuristic pieces or show off a twist on a classic adornment. The great thing is that there are many looks to choose from that will suit different styles, whether you like to keep it classy or you're unique through and through! We have a great selection of pendants and necklaces to view over at our catalogue page.
